Selecting Bridesmaids for Your Wedding

Mississippi Wedding Articles » Wedding Planning

If you are getting married then you may have put some thought into who you would like to be your bridesmaids. Many brides dream about the day that they will be married ever since they were a little girl. They imagine what their wedding will be like and through their school years they envision their friends standing in for them as bridesmaids. But being a bridesmaid is hard work. It is a responsibility and a duty. Sometimes it is better to let a friend attend your wedding as an honored guest than it is to ask them to be a bridesmaid. You want to select the right people for your bridesmaids.

When choosing bridesmaids the first question to ask is “are they responsible?” There are many ways to define this. People live all different types of lives, some are married and some are single. Some work for a living and others don’t. But if you select a bridesmaid who has an irresponsible streak – you are going to be frustrated with her from the very start. Planning a wedding takes a lot of logistics and organization. There are many details that go into planning a wedding. Not every detail involves your bridesmaids, but there are some details that you will certainly want your bridesmaids involved with. So it is important that your bridesmaids be the type of people who return phone calls on time, write things down and are well-organized.

You should also ask yourself if these friends or family members will enjoy being your bridesmaids. Some family members or friends may be expected to be asked to be your bridesmaid, but in reality – they may have many obligations and simply cannot handle adding another thing to their schedule. If they hesitate in any way you should make them feel comfortable and thank them and tell them that you look forward to sharing the day with them. Don’t feel disappointed, they actually have done you a great favor. Some people would accept your invitation and then would simply let you down. They would forget to do things or would let their other priorities come first and make excuses or get frustrated with you for asking them for any help.

Finally it is also important to keep in mind that your wedding is a special day but it is not the only day. Some brides cannot see the forest from the trees – and wind up losing their temper over napkins or bridesmaids dress colors or other small things. The little details don’t matter: the people in your life do. Unless people are actually going out of their way to be difficult to you, try to give them a break. Your friends and family want your wedding to be as special as you do. Selecting the right bridesmaids is very important to help you enjoy your wedding as much as you possibly can.
